Where a pane has cracked all the way through, waiting isn't an option — a gust of wind is all it takes for it to give way. We'll come out, assess the risk, and either make the opening safe with plywood or, where the glass is in stock, replace it there and then.
Specification matters more than most people expect. Door glass, low-level glass and bathroom glass must be safety glass; conservatory roofs need the right toughened or laminated build-up; and a north-facing room benefits from a low-E coating that a cheap clear pane simply won't give you. We spec every pane for where it's actually going. For sealed units we measure the sight size and rebate depth, confirm the spacer bar and gas fill, then order to size.
Building Regulations Part K sets out where safety glass has to be used — in and around doors, at low level, and in bathrooms. We only fit glass that meets those rules, so what you end up with is safer than what may have been there before.
How the repair works
- 1. Photo and callout Send a photo of the damage plus a wide shot of the window. We'll price it and book a visit.
- 2. Make safe if needed If the pane is dangerous we board up the same day so your property is secure while glass is ordered.
- 3. Reglaze New pane cut, fitted, sealed and beaded. Old glass taken away for recycling.
Frequently asked questions
Is a cracked window still safe?
Not really. Cracks weaken the glass, so a knock, temperature change or wind gust can drop the pane out. If you can't get us out immediately, tape it up with strong tape on both sides and keep clear of it.
How quickly can you replace broken glass?
Standard glass we can often supply and fit the same or next day across London. Toughened or laminated safety glass usually takes 24–72 hours to be cut to size.
Do you replace glass in doors as well as windows?
Yes — front doors, back doors, French doors, patio doors, bifolds and internal doors. Door glass has to be safety glass by law and we fit the correct spec every time.
How much does glass replacement cost in London?
Small single panes typically start from around £75–£120 fitted, double glazed units from around £95–£160 depending on size and specification. We confirm a fixed price before ordering.
Do you replace conservatory and roof glass?
Yes — conservatory roof panels, roof lights and lantern glass, using the correct toughened or laminated specification and gaskets for overhead glazing.
Can you replace just one pane in a bay or run of windows?
Yes, and it's the sensible approach. We match thickness, tint and pattern as closely as possible so a single replaced pane doesn't stand out.
