Shop Door Repair: Closers, Floor Springs, Locks and Handles
A shop door gets opened and closed all day, so the hardware works hard. When the door slams, won't close on its own, drags on the floor or won't lock at the end of the day, it affects customers and security straight away. Mark repairs shop entrance doors: overhead door closers, floor springs, top and bottom pivots, locks and handles, and dropped or dragging aluminium shop doors. The glass in shopfronts is covered on our shopfront glazing page; this page is about the door and its moving parts.
- Door closers adjusted or replaced
- Floor springs and pivots repaired
- Shop door locks and handles replaced
- Fixed price confirmed before any work starts
- Often same-day where the diary allows
Overhead door closers control how a door closes. Most have adjusting valves for the closing speed and the final latching action, so a door that slams or creeps shut can often be put right by adjustment. A closer that leaks oil, has lost its power or has a broken arm needs replacing, and a new one is fitted to suit the door's size and weight.
Floor springs sit in a box set into the floor under the door, doing the same job as a closer while hiding it from view. When one fails, the door may swing past its stop, refuse to hold open, or not return to closed. Some faults are fixed by adjusting the spring or replacing the top pivot and strap; a spring that is leaking or has failed inside is usually replaced, fitted into the existing floor box where the size matches.
Aluminium shop doors drop and drag when pivots wear or hinges loosen, and a dragging door strains the closer and the lock. The pivots and fixings are checked and replaced, and the door reset so it clears the floor and lines up with the lock. Shop door locks, including deadlocks, hook locks and cylinders, are repaired or replaced, and TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinders can be fitted where they suit the lock.
If the door has been damaged in a break-in, the shop is made secure first, with glass boarded where needed, subject to availability, then the lock and hardware repaired. For more on keeping a shop running, see our page for shops and retail. For broken shopfront glass, see shopfront glazing.
Shops usually need the door working again before opening time or before locking up. Send a photo or a short video of the door closing, along with the make of the closer or floor spring if you can see it, and Mark can often bring the right parts on the first visit. Repairs are often same-day where the diary allows, with a fixed price confirmed before any work starts, across Central London and out to the M25.

Frequently asked questions
Can a floor spring be repaired or does it need replacing?
It depends on the fault. Adjustment or a new top pivot and strap can cure some problems. A spring leaking oil or failed inside is normally replaced, often into the existing floor box.
Why won't my shop door close on its own?
Usually the closer or floor spring needs adjusting or has failed, or the door has dropped and is dragging. Mark checks both the closing hardware and the door's alignment.
Can you repair the lock on an aluminium shop door?
Yes. Shop door deadlocks, hook locks, cylinders and handles are repaired or replaced to suit the existing door.
