uPVC Door Repair in London: Dropped, Sticking and Stiff Doors Fixed
A uPVC door rarely fails all at once. It starts catching at the top corner, the handle needs a shove before it will lift, then one morning the key won't turn or the door won't open at all. Almost every one of those faults sits in a part that can be adjusted or swapped: the hinges, the handle, the multipoint mechanism, the cylinder, the glass or the seals. Mark repairs the door you already have, so the frame stays put and you avoid the cost and upheaval of a new one.

A door that has dropped is one of the most common uPVC door faults. uPVC doors are heavy, and over the years the hinges settle, so the door sags towards the floor on the lock side. You notice it as a door that scrapes the threshold, catches the frame at the top, or only locks if you lift the handle hard. Left alone, that extra force wears out the gearbox inside the lock, which is why a small alignment job can turn into a mechanism replacement if it waits too long.
A door that won't open is usually one of three things. The cylinder has failed and the key spins or won't turn; the gearbox inside the multipoint lock has broken so the handle moves but the bolts stay out; or the door has dropped so far that the hooks and rollers are jammed against the keeps. Each needs a different fix, and the first job on a visit is working out which one it is without damaging the door or frame. If your door is stuck shut right now, our guide to a jammed uPVC door explains what is safe to try first.
Front door repair and back door repair are much the same job on uPVC: the hardware is shared across most makes, and we carry common parts. Handles that have gone floppy or drooped are replaced with a matched pair; worn seals that let in draughts are renewed; and a cracked or misted glass panel is replaced in the door without taking the door off. Where the problem is purely the lock or the mechanism, our door and lock repairs page goes into that work in more detail.
Sticking is often seasonal. In hot weather uPVC expands and a door that closes fine in winter starts binding in July. A small hinge adjustment usually cures it for good, rather than planing or forcing the door. If you are not sure what is wrong, send a photo or a short video of the door opening and closing and Mark can usually tell you what it needs before he visits.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my uPVC door close?
Usually the door has dropped on its hinges, so the lock side catches the frame or the hooks miss their keeps. Swollen seals in hot weather and a failing multipoint mechanism are the other common causes. Most are fixed with an adjustment or one replacement part.
Can a dropped uPVC door be fixed without replacing it?
Yes, in nearly every case. The hinges can be adjusted to lift the door back into line, or replaced if they are worn beyond adjustment. The door and frame stay where they are.
How much does front door repair cost?
It depends on what has failed: an adjustment is a smaller job than a new gearbox, and glass depends on the size and type of panel. Mark confirms a fixed price before any work starts, and a photo helps him quote quickly.
My uPVC door lock is stuck. Is it the lock or the door?
If the handle feels unusually stiff, the door is usually out of line and loading the lock. If the handle moves freely but nothing happens, the gearbox has likely failed. If the key won't turn at all, it is often the cylinder.
